JUNE IS MY MONTH. PEARL IS MY STONE

While June actually has three Birthstones, Pearls are the most popular stone associated with the month of June – and most commonly given as a gift to those with June Birthdays.

Pearls also have a historic tie with Weddings.  Hindu texts credit Krishna with discovering the f irst Pearl.  He then presented it to his daughter as a gift on her Wedding day.  Both Greeks and Romans had such a closely connected view of Pearls and marriage that both Brides and guests were expected to be adorned with them.

In New Age traditions Pearls symbolize purity, modest beauty, and happiness and have been credited with healing and protective abilities as well.  In the Middle Ages Pearls could be used to cure a poisoning or used as a protective amulet Knights wore into battle.1

Royal City Jewellers and Loans Ltd. have a vast array of Pearl Jewellery.  Here is a sample:

The value of the Pearls in jewellery is determined by a combination of the luster, color, size, lack of surface flaws and symmetry that are appropriate for the type of Pearl under consideration.  Among those attributes,  luster is the most important differentiator of Pearl quality.

All factors being equal, however, the larger the Pearl the more valuable it is.  Large, perfectly round pearls are rare and highly valued.2
